What is a water filter and what is it for

The water filter is part of the coffee machine's water circuit and its role is to remove limescale, chlorine and other impurities from the incoming water before it reaches the heating system and the brewing unit. It reduces water hardness and protects internal components from scale buildup.

Signs of wear

A spent filter loses its ability to capture calcium deposits, which shows up as faster limescale formation inside the coffee machine, a change in coffee taste, or poorer quality frothed water. The coffee machine may prompt for descaling more often than usual, or water flow may decrease.

When it's time for a replacement

Timely filter replacement reduces the load on the heating element and other parts of the water circuit, limits the need for chemical descaling, and keeps the taste of the coffee consistent. A neglected filter can lead to permanent damage to parts that come into contact with water.

How to choose the right filter
