What is a flow meter and what is it for

A flow meter is a sensor that measures the amount of water passing through the coffee machine during brewing. Based on its signal, the control unit evaluates how much water has already been dosed and stops the flow at the right moment. This makes it possible to prepare espresso or another drink with a repeatable volume.

Signs of wear or malfunction

When a flow meter loses accuracy or fails, it most often shows up as inconsistent drink volume - sometimes the cup is fuller, sometimes underfilled. An error message may also appear on the display, water may be dosed excessively without stopping, or the flow may stop completely. The cause is usually limescale or dirt clogging the mechanism, or wear of the sensor's internal parts.

Why replace this part in time

A faulty or inaccurate flow meter affects the quality and consistency of the prepared drink, and in the worst case can cause water overflow or unnecessary strain on other components of the coffee machine. Timely replacement prevents follow-up problems and keeps dosing stable.
