What the transformer in a coffee machine does

The transformer is an electrical component that converts the mains voltage into the value needed by the control electronics, display, pump or other low-voltage circuits of the coffee machine. Without a functioning transformer, the machine either won't turn on at all, or individual parts that draw voltage from it will work incorrectly.

Signs of wear or failure

A damaged transformer most often shows up as the coffee machine failing to turn on, switching itself off unexpectedly, error messages appearing on the display, or a quiet buzzing sound coming from inside the machine. Sometimes a slight burning smell can also be noticed, indicating overheating of the winding.

Why you should replace the transformer in time

A faulty transformer can cause unstable power supply to sensitive electronics, leading to further failures of the control board or sensors. Timely replacement protects the other components of the machine and restores reliable operation.
