What is a knock box

A knock box is used for quickly and cleanly knocking out used coffee grounds from the portafilter or filter. Inside, it has a sturdy bar against which the filter is tapped, separating the compacted coffee puck and letting it fall into the container without spilling onto the work surface.

Typical signs of wear

Over time, the bar can loosen, bend, or crack, making it harder to release the grounds and increasing the risk of damaging the portafilter with a firmer knock. A damaged or corroded surface of the container can also worsen hygiene and make cleaning more difficult.

Why replace this part in time

A functional container with a sturdy bar protects the portafilter from excessive strain and keeps coffee preparation tidy and clean. A damaged or deformed container increases the risk of injury during handling as well as mess around the work area.
