What is a solenoid valve and what is it for

A solenoid (electromagnetic) valve controls the flow of water or steam in a coffee machine. Based on an electrical signal, it opens and closes, directing water to the brew group, to the steam or hot water wand, or to the boiler refill system. Without a properly functioning valve, the machine cannot accurately dose water or steam.

Signs of wear or malfunction

• Water or steam leaks even when the valve is closed
• The valve clicks loudly, buzzes, or vibrates
• Uneven or intermittent flow of water or steam
• The coffee machine displays an error related to boiler filling or beverage preparation

Why replace the valve in time

A leaking or stuck valve causes fluctuations in pressure and temperature, which affects the quality of the espresso as well as the milk foam. Prolonged water leakage can also damage other electrical components of the machine, so it is worth replacing the valve as soon as the first symptoms appear.
