What the microswitch does

A microswitch is a small electrical switch that signals the position of a moving part to the coffee machine – for example, the closing of the service door, the insertion of the drip tray, or the position of a valve. Based on its signal, the control unit knows whether the machine is ready for operation or should interrupt its function.

Signs of wear

• The coffee machine reports a door-open or missing-tray error even though they are in place
• The machine won't start or shuts down unexpectedly during brewing
• Clicking or mechanical resistance when closing the door with no reaction on the display
• Unstable, intermittent operation sensitive to position or pressure on the housing

Why you shouldn't put off the replacement

A faulty microswitch prevents the coffee machine from recognizing a safe state, and the machine may refuse to work even when it is physically fine. Long-term forcing of the position or bypassing the signal can damage other electronics.
