What the part does

The gear is part of the transmission mechanism that drives the movement of the brewing unit in the coffee machine. Through its teeth it transfers force from the motor to the piston or other moving parts of the unit, enabling proper coffee compaction and preparation.

When the part stops doing its job

Over time the gear's teeth wear down or break, which shows up as jerky movement of the brewing unit, a louder-running gearbox, or the mechanism stopping completely. The coffee machine may report a brewing unit error, or the unit may get stuck in one position.

When it's time for a replacement

A damaged gear increases the risk of damaging other transmission components, as the teeth can jam or break off into the surrounding mechanism. Timely replacement prevents a larger repair of the whole brewing unit and restores smooth operation of the coffee machine.
