What is a bean hopper

The hopper (bean container) is a container placed above the coffee machine's grinder that holds whole coffee beans and feeds them steadily to the grinding burrs. It usually includes a lid that prevents aroma loss and protects the beans from moisture and dirt.

How to spot wear

Cracks or a damaged lid cause the beans to lose their aroma, become damp, or let dust in. A loose or deformed cap allows beans to spill out of the grinder during handling, or the hopper may not lock securely in place, which can lead to uneven coffee dosing or jamming in the grinding mechanism.

When it's time for a replacement

A leaky or damaged hopper affects the freshness and taste of the coffee being prepared and can overload the grinder with an uneven supply of beans. Replacing it with a new part restores smooth grinder operation and protects the beans from outside influences.
