What is a coffee bean hopper

The hopper is a container located above the grinder of the coffee machine, into which coffee beans are poured. From there, the beans are gradually fed into the grinding mechanism each time a beverage is prepared. It usually includes a lid that protects the beans from moisture, light and foreign objects.

Signs of wear or damage

Cracked or deformed plastic results in a lid that no longer seals properly, allowing moisture to reach the beans or aromas to escape. A damaged locking mechanism can cause the lid to open on its own or fail to stay in place. If the hopper does not sit correctly on the grinder, it can lead to uneven bean dosing, noisier grinding or jamming.

When it's time for a replacement

A damaged hopper affects the quality and freshness of the coffee even before grinding, as beans lose their aroma faster when the seal is imperfect. Cracks or loose parts also increase the risk of debris entering the grinder, which can damage the grinding burrs.

How to choose the right replacement
