What this cleaning disc is for

The 54mm cleaning disc is a small accessory used together with backflush detergent to clean the group head and internal pathways of portafilter espresso machines. It is fitted into the portafilter basket in place of coffee, allowing water to be flushed back through the machine's internal circuits during a backflush cycle.

When it is time to use it

Regular use of the cleaning disc helps remove built-up coffee oils and residue that can accumulate in the group head over time. If backflushing is skipped for long periods, you may notice stale or bitter flavours in your espresso, slower flow, or visible residue around the group head, all signs that a cleaning cycle is overdue.
